Weekly Parent Newsletter
January 8, 2015

Every Thursday school is in session you will be receiving a link to the “Weekly Parent Newsletter”. Please read carefully. This will contain All Saints Academy, St. Cloud news for you and your family.

1. Open House - All Saints Academy would like to invite prospective parents to an Open House for Preschool – 6th grade on Thursday, Jan. 22nd from 4:00 – 7:00 pm.  Pass the word onto friends or coworkers that would benefit from attending All Saints Academy.  They will be able to spend time and tour our St. Cloud campus, 1215 11th Ave N, St. Cloud and experience the love and caring displayed by our teachers every day.  Our environment allows child/ren to develop individually and have success academically, spiritually and socially.  Our school community provides an active, supportive and caring environment for peers, teachers, staff and parents.  There will be tours available that evening.   Preschool & Kindergarten will have presentations by teachers every hour beginning at 4:00, 5:00 & 6:00 pm.   1st - 6th grade teachers will also be available to visit and answer questions.  Come have a tour and see what All Saints Academy has to offer.  Invite your friends!  If you have questions, please contact us at 251-5295.  You may also contact our Principal, Mrs. Gjerde, Amanda.gjerde@allsaintsmn.org or her assistant, Mrs. Bristow, marissa.bristow@allsaintsmn.org.

All Saints Academy thanks our “Pearl of Wisdom” Sponsors.
Today we’d like to thank St. Cloud Overhead Door Co.

4. Catholic Schools Week January 25 – 30th - There are a lot of different activities in the works for this year’s Catholic Schools week – watch for them to be communicated through campus newsletters. Two events not to be missed –
Sunday, January 25th there will be school sponsored liturgies at St. Paul’s Church, St. Peter’s Church, St. Joseph, Waite Park and St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph.
Also, on Wednesday, January 28th join our entire school – and many other local Catholic elementary schools – for Mass with Bishop Donald Kettler at the St. John’s Abbey Church, currently scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Watch for updates to this time as it may be moved up a bit earlier.
Our students will also be attending a performance that day put on by CLIMB Theater titled Respect- this play seeks to inspire students to help build a respectful community. There will be two different, age appropriate performances, one for K-2 and one for 3-6. For more info go to: climb.org.

5. Drop Off/Pick Up Reminders  - As the New Year begins, we want to remind parents/guardians of safety/social protocols during drop off/pick up times.  Your children's safety is our utmost concern.
In Front of School:
o   Please drop off your children on the same side as the school unless you plan on walking your child across the street.
o   Children should walk on the sidewalks.  We have had several children fall when running.
o   Please do not park on the marked crosswalks.
o   Please do not smoke near the school building.
In Back of School:
o   When dropping off and if you plan on walking your child to the door, please park your car in a parking spot or on the street first.
o   During pick up, the teachers need to physically see the adult who is picking up your children.  Please drive up or walk up the sidewalk so that teachers can see whom your children are leaving with in the afternoon.
o   Please do not park on the marked crosswalks.
o   Please do not smoke near the school building.
o   Please remind your children to be watchful of all cars in the parking lot.

6. FunZone Registration Jan. 19th & 20th – The deadline to sign your child up for these No School Days is TODAY. If you find you are in need of care for your child, or your child just needs some time away from home with school friends, please contact FunZone at 320-237-2463 or at sc.funzone@allsaintsmn.org.

7. CAP Day - On Thursday, Jan. 15th, the St. Cloud Campus will be holding a CAP (Caring About People) Day.  Students may bring a donation of $1 or more and wear a hat/cap all day during the school day.  All proceeds will go towards Patrick McMullen.  Many of you may have seen Patrick at school in his new wheelchair.

8. All Saints Academy Behavioral Policies - At All Saints Academy, we’ve been working to add some additional tools to our behavior policies: the Behavior Framework, Saintly Behavior notice, and Behavior Reflection. These tools will be put to use when faculty, staff, and students return from Christmas break.
Our goal is to interrupt and discourage unacceptable behavior and just as importantly, recognize and celebrate positive behavior.
There are two pieces that you could potentially see coming home: the blue slip for "Saintly Behavior”, and the pink slip for the "Behavior Reflection".
Teachers and staff will be working together to encourage and recognize positive behavior. As students make positive choices, teachers will give out the blue "Saintly Behavior" slip.
The pink "Behavior Reflection" will be given out to those children who are not displaying the attitudes and behaviors expected of students here at All Saints Academy. Parents are required to sign and return the "Behavior Reflection" to school.
On the back of each pink and blue slip you can find the All Saints Academy Behavior Framework and the list of expected attitudes and behaviors. Teachers and staff will circle/highlight the attitudes and behaviors for each incident.
Please contact your homeroom teacher or Mrs. Gjerde if you have questions.

9. The Yearbook Needs Your Help – The Yearbook Committee would like Fall and Winter sports team pictures for the yearbook. If you have submissions please e-mail them to Mary Orth at mary.orth@allsaintsmn.org.

10. Lost & Found - Are you missing any sweatshirts or jackets? How about a pair of mittens or a hat? Please come visit our Lost & Found bin and table in the hall just outside the office. We have a lot of things that are unclaimed by our students which have been gathered in our lunchroom, playground, gym and hallway. Please take a minute and look through the items we have.

All Saints Academy has recently developed a new way to keep all parent/child contact information up-to-date and accessible to all teachers and office personnel. In order to ensure we have proper contact info for you, if you have any changes in address, phone (including home, cell and work), e-mail or names please send these changes to anna.barzeyrobinson@allsaintsmn.org. It would be helpful if you have had any recent changes that you believe were already given to us, to resubmit them to me so I can be sure it is updated.
St. Cloud Area Youth Basketball begins January 10, 2015 for grades 1-8. Please see the school office for a flyer.
Birthday Treats – If your child will be sharing a birthday treat with his/her class this year, we encourage you to be health conscious and peanut/tree nut safe when sending these treats to school. Some healthy snack ideas include grain products (crackers, pretzels, cereal bars), fruit, vegetables, milk products (cheese, yogurt, pudding) or meat/protein (sunflower seeds and cold cuts). If you have questions regarding allergies of students in your child’s class, please contact the teacher or Mrs. Gjerde.
Sign Up for REMIND - The St. Cloud Campus would like to invite parents/guardians to sign up for REMIND.  REMIND is a safe, free and easy way we can connect with parents through texting.  It allows us to communicate with all parents instantly.  Signing up is done through a unique code to Mrs. Bristow.  Please text to 612-260-4578 and in the message enter @ef392.  It is that easy.  You will be added on to the parent list.

15. Thank You –
…to all the families who have donated gifts to the Christmas Family Project.
Dear ASA Families,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and generous support towards our family this Christmas. The gift cards we received for gas and groceries are much appreciated and very useful. We will also have some fun with the Barnes and Noble gift cards too! There was no stopping our daughter when she unwrapped her roller skates...they just had to be tried on and used! Lastly, the image of her gently holding her doll is one that holds true in my heart. It is also the image of this community holding families in need with the same love and gentleness. Thank you for your loving gifts of community this Christmas. May the New Year continue to be blessed for each of you.
In appreciation, Family B
