·  Elementary Band for 2016-17! - Attention 3rd-5th grade parents: As you may have read last week, we will soon be starting registration for students interested in being in band next year. All 4th-6th graders can be in band, which means YOUR child/ren will be eligible! Besides just the enjoyment of making music, there are many reasons why you should enroll your child in band. For instance, did you know that according to multiple studies, students who participate in a musical ensemble have significantly higher academic achievement? Musical participation has been linked to higher reading, math, and other academic scores! Studies have also shown links between musical study and increased social skills, including an increased sense of empathy, collaboration, and teamwork! If you want these benefits for your child, consider enrolling them in band for next year! Look for more information to come in the next few weeks, and in the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact band director Sean Jacobson at sc.catholicbands@gmail.com to start a conversation about bringing the joy of playing an instrument to YOUR child!
·      ID Tech Camp – This summer, encourage the awesome in your child.  At iD Tech summer programs, students ages 6 – 18 can learn to code, design games, mod Minecraft, engineer robots, model 3D characters, build websites, print 3D objects and so much more!  62 unique courses for kids and teens.  Go to www. iDTech.com for more info or contact a program advisor at 1-844-290-7469.
·      Family Lunch Accounts - Family Lunch accounts need to be kept up to date. Notices are in Thursday folders this week if you owe $10 or more. If the balance owed is more than $30.00, students will receive a sandwich and milk during lunch until payment is received. According to Federal Policy from the Department of Agriculture, “Schools may deny a meal to a student who pays reduced or full price and who does not provide the required payment for the meal.”  Your cooperation with this matter is most appreciated.
·      Safe Environment Training – Many of you have completed the required paperwork needed for background checks.  Part of the process is completing the Safe Environment Training that is found online.  If you are volunteering at the school, it is required that you complete this training every year. Thank you to those of you who have completed the online training.  Please go to http://stcdio.org/safeenvironmentinstructions/ to complete the training.  The video is approximately 11 minutes long.   Make sure to answer the questions and click “Submit.”
·      School Speak – ASA has implemented School Speak, a school management system.  It is a secure portal that allows us to store information and communicate with our families. Many of you received the introductory email to log in to School Speak but haven’t log on yet. Please contact the office, 251-5295, so that we can provide the information for you so you can log onto School Speak.  We would like all parents to log in and update their profile.  This technology will allow us to provide more information, communicate with parents and offer useful tools for everyone who is a member of our school community.
