Principal’s Piece

In your school folder is a copy of ASA’s PBIS -- Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports -- Rubric

PBIS is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health. When implemented with fidelity, PBIS improves social emotional competence, academic success, and school climate. It also improves teacher health and wellbeing. It is a way to create positive, predictable, equitable and safe learning environments where everyone thrives.

Teachers have been receiving training on PBIS the last couple years from a District 742 employee who specializes in SEL. (Social Emotional Learning), and now every ASA staff person will be following PBIS to help effectively implement this program.  The goal is to help students better regulate their behavior, create an environment where everyone feels welcomed and valued, allow for more productive, enjoyable learning, and help students relate positively to others.

ASA staff will help students model appropriate behavior and develop positive relationships, but in situations where students are displaying inappropriate, negative behavior then this rubric will be filled out and sent home.  Every ASA staff member is responsible for implementing PBIS and the hope is parents will follow up with their children in helping correct the inappropriate behavior.  If the inappropriate behavior is frequent or is severe, then a parent conference will be conducted and a possible suspension of the student.

Overall students at ASA are well-mannered and respectful, and behavior at ASA is better this year than last year. Ideally after a month of correcting inappropriate behaviors and sending these rubrics home, students will realize that there are consequences to their behavior and that life is more fulfilling when you are kind and respectful to others. I think with reminders and follow through by staff and parents, we can improve behavior even more and when visitors are in the building, they will say, “What a nice bunch of students you have at ASA!”

 Grandparents’/Special Friend Day Tomorrow

Grandparents’/Special Friend Day will be celebrated on Friday, September 30th.  The afternoon will begin at 12:30 pm with Grandparents visiting classrooms.  Grandparents may enter using Door #2.  We will have mass at 1:30 pm in St. Paul’s Church. (The students will not be attending Friday morning mass. If you have not communicated if your child will be going home normally or going home with grandparents, please email Karin Loch at karin.loch@allsaintsmn.org.

ASA welcomed preschool grandparents this morning!  We hope everyone enjoyed their time with their grandchildren in class.

Drop Off & Pick Up Reminders

When dropping off in the morning and picking up in front of school, please park on the opposite side of the road.  Do not park in front of the building. The front of the school is reserved for bus drop off and pick up.  There is a red line on the sidewalk in front of the school building indicating the No Parking area.  No parking signs are also posted in front of school.  School buses are having difficulty dropping off and picking up students safely with cars parked on both sides of the road.

Additionally, please be considerate and do not block neighbors’ driveways when parking.

Volunteer Background Checks

If you plan on chaperoning a field trip with your child’s class, you are required to undergo the Safe Environment Training with a full background check.  Information is available on FACTS under Resource Documents.  Look for “Safe Environment Flyer.”  The training is approximately 1 hour, 45 minutes and the cost is $19.

Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences in October

Conferences for the first trimester of school will be held Thursday, Oct. 13 th and Tuesday, Oct. 18 th from 3:45 pm – 7:00 pm both nights . Each conference is a 15 minute, scheduled appointment to meet with your child/ren's homeroom teacher. All conferences will be virtual. Parent(s) is/are required to be in attendance at both fall & winter conferences.

We are using School Speak to sign up and organize our fall conferences. If you do not know your username/password, please contact Marissa Bristow and she will assist you.

1. Find your child’s homeroom page on the left side of the screen

2. Click on “Fall Conferences”

3. Choose your conference time & sign up.

Our specialist teachers will also be available for conferences on both nights. You may sign up to have a conference with those teachers as well. Music, Art, STEM, Phy. Ed. & Spanish conference sign up is located in the School Group, at the bottom on the left side of the screen.

Workathon

Workathon is scheduled for Saturday, October 29th!   This is a major fundraiser for our school and one of the ways you can meet the required fundraising goal.  Letter writing has begun and they are getting mailed out as the children complete their letters.  Students will spin the “wheel” for prizes for every $50 they raise.  Each student’s personal goal is $200, all funds are applied to your families fund raising goal of $350/year/student.

It’s not too late to provide more addresses for your child.  We ask that students provide a minimum of 10 addresses of family & friends.  Please address these envelopes with family & friends’ addresses.  Students need to provide at minimum 10 addresses of family & friends to begin the letter writing campaign to sponsor them at the Workathon.  All funds raised stay here with All Saints Academy and are applied to fundraising goals.

PAC (Parent Activities Committee)

PAC is ASA’s parent organization.  They help with fun activities for the kids and do things to show appreciation for our teachers.  Your support is needed to keep this parent organization operating.  All families are asked to donate to PAC at the beginning of the year. Currently PAC has only collected half of what they collected last year.  However, last week’s PAC meeting was better attended than previous year’s meetings.  Without your support things like the Halloween Party, Kid’s Dance, St. Nick Day, and Spring Carnival will not happen.  Your child’s class is in need of parent representatives so please sign up.

FACTS

FACTS is the new online Student Information System and tuition payment system.  ASA is transitioning from School Speak to FACTS this year.   It is a secure portal that allows us to provide more information, communicate with parents, sign up for conferences and offer useful tools for everyone who is a member of our school community.

If you are new to All Saints Academy or have never logged onto FACTS please call the office for your username & password.  Currently, the office and kitchen are learning how to utilize FACTS with our lunch program.  When we learn how you can add funds using a credit card, it will be communicated to you.

Funzone is using School Speak for now.  When Funzone transitions to FACTS, you will be notified and provided directions on signing up & payment.

Student Absences or Late Students

Please call the office to report your child’s absence before 8 am . Also, transportation changes for your child should be made by calling the office before 10 am. It is difficult for us to make changes to the routine after 10 am and teachers do not have time to check email messages to make those changes throughout the day. If your child unexpectedly needs to attend FunZone, please call the office by 10 am.

Free/Reduced Hot Lunch Program

Parents, it is not too late to send in applications for free and/or reduced hot lunches. You can pick up an application at the office. If you have questions regarding this program, please contact Mrs. Bristow at 251-5295 or marissa.bristow@allsaintsmn.org.

2022-2023 Playground Supervision Program

Our goal is to have one volunteer parent to act as crossing guard on the playground every day to assist the school staff during the entire recess period.  Recess will be 10:40 am – 11:40 am.

Please contact the office to sign up for Playground Supervision. We need one parent everyday to assist the school staff during the entire recess/lunch period.  There is a calendar in the office for your convenience or you can call Mrs. Bristow to sign up.  ASA is hoping to move this sign up to a digital format within the month.

K - 5 families need to volunteer for recess supervision 2-3 times this year for the safety of the children.  (Preschool parents are not required to volunteer as their children do not participate in lunch recess time.  But all families are welcome to volunteer.) If you find your schedule doesn’t allow you to volunteer for Recess Duty, you may opt out by paying $50. (Separate charge from Volunteer Requirement. Recess hours are applied to the 15-hours/year of volunteering.) These funds are used to defray the cost of additional paid recess staff.  At the end of the school year, families will be charged $50 if they haven’t volunteered for recess.

BULLETIN BOARD

Please help our friends at St. Cloud Youth Hockey (SCYHA) by spreading the word to friends, families, and co-workers. SCYHA has a couple of great opportunities available for our younger skaters that want to play hockey but might not be old enough yet. Or there may be some kids that you know of that want to try hockey but don't want to commit to a season just yet.

Here are two opportunities to pass along:

October Try Hockey Free

We are having another Try Hockey Free event in October.

Is your skater too young to register but still wants to play, well come join us.

Is your skater still unsure and wants to give it another shot, come join us!

Does your skater have friends that might be interested in trying, help us spread the word. Only catch is they must live in the St Cloud area and/or attend a St Cloud School.

I have attached the flyer for reference and sharing purposes.

Here is the link to register: https://forms.gle/RFNB8tKKQ4KrAiBF8

Central MN Pre-K & K Hockey Camp

Is your skater too young for the regular season that your association allows?

Is your skater interested in hockey but not ready to commit to a full season?

If you answered yes this is the program for you!

Some of you may know this was a program that Dianah Klatt used to run. Since Dianah has moved, SCYHA thought that this was a good program for kids in Central MN to get introduced to skating and ultimately go into each of our hockey associations. SCYHA took over the ice time to sustain the program for the kids who want to get introduced to skating. Come join coach Robert on the ice for 10 sessions. This is NOT limited to St Cloud kids, so help us spread the word!

I have attached the flyer for reference and sharing purposes.

If you have further questions, please contact Amanda Berry, SCYHA 2nd Vice President, at 320-291-6835.

St. Cloud State University Husky Hot Shots program invites all Preschool – 5th grade students to participate in a basketball clinic program. The Men’s and Women’s Basketball programs will run a one-hour clinic on four Saturdays this Fall (Oct. 22nd and 29th, Nov. 5th and 19th). This clinic is catered to Pre-K through 6th grade and will run from 9:00am to 10:00am with all attendees receiving a different Huskies participation item for each session attended. The 30 student-athletes that comprise the Men’s and Women’s programs along with the coaching staff will provide skill instruction and a fun atmosphere for your students to get involved with the game of basketball.  Cost is $35/child.  For more information or to sign up, go to https://mensbasketball.scsuhuskiessportcamps.com/husky-hot-shots.cfm.  The flyer will be available on FACTS.
