                                October 2, 2014

Every Thursday school is in session you will be receiving a link to the  “Weekly Parent Newsletter”. Please read carefully. This will contain All Saints Academy, St. Cloud news for you and your family.

1. Marathon at Whitney Park This Saturday! – We are at 71% of our Goal - We need EVERYONE’S help to reach our goal of $34,350 by Oct. 4th!! So far, our students have collected $24,466.87 in Marathon donations!  We are almost there!  We’re confident we can make this $34,350 goal with everyone’s help.  Those who haven’t collected their personal goal yet, it’s not too late to get started!  You can still make those phone calls and visit neighbors until Saturday morning at 9:00 am!!  (Those who need to collect some pledges over the weekend may submit them next week and still receive their incentives.)   Pledge sheets should be turned in with final pledges.  Thank you for all you do to encourage your children in this process.  We do appreciate the time, effort and energy you invest in making the Marathon an annual success.  Thank you to all of you who have encouraged your children in this process, we need 100% participation to reach our budgeted goal.  Thanks to our generous KC’s, 100% of the money raised stays right here at our school and benefits our students.
Remember to join us this Saturday, October 4th at Whitney Park.  Join All Saints Academy friends for the 4-mile walk.  We will begin gathering around 8:30 am at the All Saints Academy sign. We will join in prayer before we head out at 9:00 am on foot, in wagons and on roller blades, which will weave around the Whitney Park neighborhood with refreshments provided back at Whitney after the walk.  There is a mini-Marathon for preschool and kindergarten children who prefer a shorter route.  All along the way, the Knights of Columbus will be guiding us and there will be first aid help.
Rick Fleege, Cathedral teacher and coach will be holding a flag football session immediately after the Marathon.  Students in 4th, 5th and 6th grade are welcome to participate. See you on Saturday!

2. Pray the World Mission Rosary - World Rosary Day will observed TOMORROW, Oct. 3rd from 2-2:30pm by All Saints Academy at St. Paul’s Church.  We will be praying for world peace.  Students will be wearing certain colors that represent the different regions of the Mission Rosary.  6th grade will be wearing blue for the oceans surrounding Australia and the islands of the Pacific. 1st & 5th grade will be wearing green for the forests and grasslands of Africa. K & 4th grade will be wearing red, calling to mind the fire of faith that brought missionaries to the Americas. 2nd grade will be wearing white to symbolize Europe. 3rd grade will be wearing yellow symbolizing the morning light of the East and “beginning of civilization” for Asia/Middle East.
Gather your rosary and join in this special prayer devotion to Mary.

3. Morning Drop Off - In the morning during drop off, the back parking lot is for parents who drop off their children and don't plan on getting out of their vehicle.  If you prefer to walk your child to the door or will be getting out of your vehicle please park your car (in front or in the back of school) and you are welcome to walk your child/ren into the building and/or say good bye to them outside of your vehicle.

4. Make A Difference Day - All Saints Academy along with the St. Cloud Times is supporting the Make A Difference program.  This year the focus is on homelessness in the community.  Your family can help by donating gently used or new coats, hats and mittens.  There will be a collection box in the entry way beginning next week, where you may place your donation.  The box will be in our building until Friday, Oct. 24th. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

5. Reminder: Fall Break Oct. 16-17 – Thursday, October 16th and Friday, October 17th there will be no school for fall break. Also, there will not be a parent newsletter that week. If needed, FunZone is open on Thursday and Friday by pre-registration only. Please see your child’s Thursday Folder for registration information, or contact FunZone at (320) 281-5387 or sc.funzone@allsaintsmn.org for registration or additional information.

6. Home & School - We had a very successful meeting this past Tuesday.  There are many fun things planned for the year.  We are looking for parent officers.  For this year, we would like to have co-presidents (one St. Cloud parent and one Waite Park parent), a treasurer and also a secretary.  There will be monthly meetings.  If you would like to get involved in school and find it hard to do that during the day, this is a wonderful opportunity to volunteer.  Please email Marissa Bristow,marissa.bristow@allsaintsmn.org if you are interested in holding an office with Home & School.
There will be another meeting, Tuesday, Oct. 7th at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria.  A lot of work is needed to host the Halloween Carnival.  The carnival is a fundraiser for Home & School.  We are asking for your help in two ways.  If each family would be willing to donate 2 bags of candy – please adhere to our Nut Safe policy at the school - to the carnival, that would be helpful.  Please bring it to the office by Mon., Oct. 20th.  We also need many hands to provide a fun, family friendly event on Sat., Oct. 25th.  Please join us if you are interested in being part of this wonderful party for your children.  For more info on the Halloween Carnival, please contact Jen Stueve at allfleetleasing@yahoo.com or 290-1624.

·      11:30 – 2nd grade
·      11:35  - 3rd grade

9. Proper Footwear for Physical Education - As you can imagine lots of movement occurs during physical education. Shoes that are designed for running and kicking during class are important for safety and to prevent injury. Students need shoes that won’t slip on the gym floor; cover the toes and most of the top of the foot; and are well secured by laces or straps. There are many types of shoes that are fashionable but not appropriate for physical education. Some examples are crocs, sandals, boots and slip on shoes that lack a strap(s) and don’t cover the foot on top. Students wearing the improper footwear will sit out of class.

10. Volunteer hours - If you are volunteering during the school day at school, please sign in at the office. That is the main form of information we use when we track your volunteer hours during the day. Please take a few minutes to stop in and see us.

11.  Spiritwear Sale - We hope many of you took advantage of our online store for ASA spiritwear.  If you missed the ordering window, we have a few items for sale in the office.  You are welcome to come shopping in the main office. Every Wednesday is Spiritwear Day and we invite students, staff and adults to wear their spiritwear on Wednesdays.

12. Share Your Gifts at All Saints Academy – Volunteering at school is a wonderful opportunity to give back and share your gifts.  Volunteering at school also allows you to see your children and other children in the school setting.  We are requesting that each family volunteer 15 hours/year at school and as recess crossing guard.  Recess volunteers are our greatest need. Please come to the office to sign up. All family names will be in the rotation unless you have paid the $40 to abstain from recess duty for the year or have fulfilled your two recess volunteer times.  If you see your name on the recess calendar and you would like to opt out, payment is required two (2) weeks prior to your duty.  We will post the calendars online and will send home at the beginning of the month.  (If your day/year does not allow you to volunteer, we ask that you pay $50 per family (general volunteering) and $40 (recess) so that we may compensate a substitute during the lunch/recess hour specifically. Possible total of $90 this year.) We ask for your patience while we develop this process.

13. Bulletin Board
·    Birthday Treats – If your child will be sharing a birthday treat with his/her class this year, we encourage you to be health conscious and peanut/tree nut safe when sending these treats to school. Some healthy snack ideas include grain products (crackers, pretzels, cereal bars), fruit, vegetables, milk products (cheese, yogurt, pudding) or meat/protein (sunflower seeds and cold cuts). If you have questions regarding allergies of students in your child’s class, please contact the teacher or Mrs. Gjerde.
·    Sign Up for REMINDThe St. Cloud Campus would like to invite parents/guardians to sign up for REMIND.  REMIND is a safe, free and easy way we can connect with parents through texting.  It allows us to communicate with all parents instantly.  Signing up is done through a unique code to Mrs. Bristow.  Please text to 612-260-4578 and in the message enter @ef392.  It is that easy.  You will be added on to the parent list.
