Parent Newsletter September 25, 2014

All Saints Academy, St. Cloud Campus
Weekly Parent Newsletter
September 25, 2014

Every Thursday school is in session you will be receiving a “Weekly Parent Newsletter”. Please read carefully. This will contain All Saints Academy, St. Cloud news for you and your family.

1. Marathon Needs Everyone’s Participation - In our first four days of collecting donations, students have collected $7733.81.  We are at 22.5% of our $34,350 goal.  We’ll need to keep “running those bases” to make it home in 10 days.  Thank you for all you do to encourage your children at home.  It is fun to see their enthusiasm as they reach their personal goals, have their names announced and work to reach their class goal.
We appreciate the time, effort and energy you invest in making the Marathon an annual success. 100% of the money raised stays at All Saints Academy.  We really need everyone’s participation to make it happen!   Remember to put Saturday, Oct. 4th on your calendar.  Join the crowd at Whitney Park for the walk around the neighborhood.  You can run, walk or roller blade.  We encourage you to enjoy a nice walk and talk with classmates and their families.  Afterwards, head back to Whitney for refreshments.  Let’s reach our goal of $34,350 by Oct. 4th!
We would like to have a student presence after masses on the weekends at St. Peter’s, St. Paul’s and St. Michael’s.  If you and your child would be interested in gathering pledges this weekend please contact Mrs. Bristow, marissa.bristow@allsaintsmn.org.

2. Spiritwear Sale - We have All Saints Academy Spiritwear for sale.  Please go to our website http://www.allsaintsmn.org/ and the link is at the bottom.  Items must be paid for online and will be available through Sept. 30th.  There will be other opportunities during the year to purchase spiritwear. Delivery to the school is 3 weeks after the store has closed.  We hope many of you take advantage of this opportunity.  All Saints Academy has deemed Wednesdays as Spiritwear Day for the year.  We invite students, staff and parents to wear their spiritwear, specifically on Wednesdays!   (Note:  We have found that the fleece is runs small but other items are true to size.)

3.  Home & School – A Home & School meeting (formerly PAC) has been schedule for Tuesday, September 30th at 6:30 pm at the school.  A number of you had indicated on your volunteer sheet that you are interested in being part of Home & School.  We will be merging the PAC from WP & SC campuses.  Come and join the fun.  All are welcome!

4.  Lunch Schedule – Recess is after lunch now.  The new lunch schedule is as follows:
·      11:00 – 5th grade
·      11:05 – 6th grade
·      11:10 – 4TH grade
·      11:20 – 1st grade
·      11:25 – Kindergarten
·      11:30 – 2nd grade
·      11:35  - 3rd grade

5.  Proper Footwear for Physical Education - As you can imagine lots of movement occurs during physical education. Shoes that are designed for running and kicking during class are important for safety and to prevent injury. Students need shoes that won’t slip on the gym floor; cover the toes and most of the top of the foot; and are well secured by laces or straps. There are many types of shoes that are fashionable but not appropriate for physical education. Some examples are crocs, sandals, boots and slip on shoes that lack a strap(s) and don’t cover the foot on top. Students wearing the improper footwear will sit out of class.

6. Volunteer hours - If you are volunteering during the school day at school, please sign in at the office. That is the main form of information we use when we track your volunteer hours during the day. Please take a few minutes to stop in and see us.

7.  Volleyball PAA Night – Tonight is Parochial Athletic Association (PAA) Night.  Everyone is welcome.  It will be held at Cathedral High School.  There will be prizes during the evening and Cathedral’s pep band will be playing.  All students who wear blue and gold or their jersey will get in free.

8. Sacramental Preparation – All Saints Academy supports and recognizes that our families are members of parishes and encourages and supports your involvement in your family’s church.
Parishes as well as Catholic Schools work as partners in their responsibility to support parents as the primary educators of their children.
The responsibility of preparation for the sacraments is one that belongs to the parish.  All Saints Academy supports that formation which is led by the parish.  All families are expected to be in contact with their parishes to insure you are actively registered and involved in your parish as well as involved in sacramental preparation.

9. Share Your Gifts at All Saints Academy – Volunteering at school is a wonderful opportunity to give back and share your gifts.  Volunteering at school also allows you to see your children and other children in the school setting.  We are requesting that each family volunteer 15 hours/year at school and as recess crossing guard.  Recess volunteers are our greatest need. Please come to the office to sign up. All family names will be in the rotation unless you have paid the $40 to abstain from recess duty for the year or have fulfilled your two recess volunteer times.  If you see your name on the recess calendar and you would like to opt out, payment is required two (2) weeks prior to your duty.  We will post the calendars online and will send home at the beginning of the month.  (If your day/year does not allow you to volunteer, we ask that you pay $50 per family (general volunteering) and $40 (recess) so that we may compensate a substitute during the lunch/recess hour specifically. Possible total of $90 this year.) We ask for your patience while we develop this process.

10. Hot Lunch Program – Parents, you have until Sept. 30th to send in applications for free and/or reduced hot lunches. You can pick up an application at the office. When students receive free/reduced lunches, our hot lunch program receives a reimbursement from the government, benefitting our lunch program. If you have questions regarding this program please contact Mrs. Bristow at 251-5295.

11. Piano Lessons - Mrs. Goenner still has several openings for piano lessons on both Monday and Wednesday afternoons for students in grades 2 through 6.  Please contact her if you are interested: mary.goenner@allsaintsmn.org.

12. Bulletin Board
·    Birthday Treats – If your child will be sharing a birthday treat with his/her class this year, we encourage you to be health conscious and peanut/tree nut safe when sending these treats to school. Some healthy snack ideas include grain products (crackers, pretzels, cereal bars), fruit, vegetables, milk products (cheese, yogurt, pudding) or meat/protein (sunflower seeds and cold cuts). If you have questions regarding allergies of students in your child’s class, please contact the teacher or Mrs. Gjerde.
·    Sign Up for REMINDThe St. Cloud Campus would like to invite parents/guardians to sign up for REMIND.  REMIND is a safe, free and easy way we can connect with parents through texting.  It allows us to communicate with all parents instantly.  Signing up is done through a unique code to Mrs. Bristow.  Please text to 612-260-4578 and in the message enter @ef392.  It is that easy.  You will be added on to the parent list.
·    Families from across the diocese are invited to join in a fun event that’s a first of its kind!  The Mission Office is hosting a Diocesan Barn Dance on Saturday, September 27th, 2014!  Join us for Mass with Bishop Kettler at 5:00pm, followed by a meal and four live music groups performing; a live auction will take place around 8:30pm, and there will be fun for the kids as well as refreshments available all night.    This event is a benefit for our Diocesan partnerships with the Dioceses of Maracay, Venezuela and Homa Bay, Kenya.  Both partnerships have been a blessing to hundreds in our diocese, as well as theirs, over the past decades, but they do come at a cost.  Free will donations at the door will help raise funds for partnership needs and activities, as well as being a great chance for people of our diocese to gather and celebrate in a fun way!   Contact the Mission Office with questions: (320) 251-1100 or visit http://mission.stcdio.org
